We Believe…

“For in him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
As followers of Jesus Christ, both our worship and our mission are in Christ’s name. Worshipping together makes for a richer and deeper spiritual experience that is transformational. We believe that Jesus is truly there and is truly in the bread and the wine. He is present with us in ways that are beyond our ken. The mystery of how it happens does nothing to take away the amazing grace of it. In fact, mystery is one of the things that makes our worship so beautiful.
We seek to see Christ within everyone we meet. Recognizing that he is with us in the Eucharist and through the Holy Spirit, we strive to walk in his footsteps as best we are able. We want St. John to be a place where people can find solace, strength, healing as well as reconciliation and renewal.
We are Anglo-Catholic meaning we are similar to both the Roman Catholic Church and the Protestant Church, but are not quite the same as either. John Orens has written, “In the secret places of their hearts, modern men and women are seeking themselves. They sense, although they cannot believe it, that they have enduring value, that there is more to themselves than their employees, their accountants, their government, or even their families can possibly know. What the world craves is the assurance that there is ‘a splendor burning in the heart of things.’ Naked dogma cannot supply this need, nor can empty ritual. Only the Anglo-Catholic vision will suffice.” That’s what we hope you will find at St. John!
